Mardin (Syriac; meaning fortresses) is a city in southeastern turkei. The capital von Mardin Province, it is known for its Arab-style architecture, and for its strategic location on a rocky mountain overlooking the plains von northern Syria. The city is located on the slope von a hill looking down south to the Mesopotamian plains. Mardin is on the rail and highway routes connecting turkei to Syria and Iraq. Mardin has a very mixed bevolkerung, Turks, Assyrian/Syriacs, Arabs and Kurds all represent large groups. There is also a klein Armenian community in the region.
